Surfing in Morocco

Imsouane. Long waves, tiny village.

A small village between Agadir and Essaouira where everything is walking distance. Surf hostels, surfers, a fishing harbour — and a bay you can ride almost end to end.

The spots

Two waves. One for longboards, one for shortboards.

Longboard · mellow · long

The Bay

The wave Imsouane is known for: a very long, mellow point break, and the line-up is full of longboarders. How it breaks changes with the tide — high tide and low tide feel like different waves. On a good day you can ride almost the whole bay.

In winter, the bay stays surfable even when a big swell comes in.

Shortboard · faster · can get big

Cathedral

Around the headland, north of the village. Faster and more powerful than the Bay — this is where the shortboards go. In winter it can get pretty big.

Like everything here, you reach it on foot.

The village

No car needed.

Imsouane is tiny. You walk from your bed to the water, to the harbour, to dinner. There are surf hostels, surfers — and not much else. That's the point.

When and how

Winter is the season.

Roughly November to March is the main season. Imsouane lies on the Atlantic coast between Agadir and Essaouira; most people fly into Agadir and take a transfer or taxi — about one to one and a half hours by car.

With a crew

We're planning crew trips to Imsouane — a small group at your level, longboard or shortboard, with someone who knows the place. Tell us when you'd like to go, and you'll be the first to hear when a date is set.
